Île au Cochon
Located in Lac Saint-Pierre, just west of
the mouth of the St. François River, île au Cochon is a
major asset for consolidating protection of the Lac Saint-Pierre
islands. Predominantly wooded, this site also has a marsh that
fringes the bay of the half-moon-shaped island. Since this habitat
serves as a spawning ground for a number of fish species and
a nesting area for American Wigeon and Black Duck, the acquisition
of the entire island has assured protection of the whole marshland.

In this case, 39.50 hectares of significant habitat are now
protected by the Nature Conservancy of Canada, which has played
an especially active role in the conservation of natural environments
in the Lac Saint-Pierre region.
